The secret lives of flutes

In an effort to learn how to photograph clear glass, I headed to my garage with my light kit, camera, and a couple of champaign flutes. Not having any champaign in the house, I opted for some sparkling water with a dash of cranberry juice. Using the lessons I learn in the book Light–Science and Magic, by Fil Hunter, et al., I placed a light box directly behind the glasses. I also made a yeoman’s effort to place black cards to either side to give the sides of the glasses a little more definition. I moved the flutes about, trying to get interesting shots, and when I was done, I realized I had a story about the secret lives of flutes. Had they been the instruments, it would have been a musical.
