A Milestone
To end the year, I have reached a milestone–developing film at home. As a student, I’ve had access to darkrooms and the gear necessary to develop film, but that access is limited. Developing at home feels like I’ve become more independent and free to shoot film without as many restrictions. This is part of a larger trip I’m on to explore the processes of image making, particularly in the physical world, with the notion that being present–and imperfectly so–in the process adds value and meaning to the end result.
These images were taken at Folsom Lake on a very gray day yesterday. They were shot on Ilford Delta 100 4x5 sheet film using a 135mm lens on a Linhof Technika IV (1/10 at f/16) and developed with Arista liquid developer (1:9). Digitized with camera and backlight. Final edits in Darktable.
